Something to listen to while we’re pacing around waiting for the RRHOF Class of 2018 to be announced.

As brilliant as the various covers of her work are, there’s always a sense of perfection–inevitability–about her own versions.

 

 

Two songs from virtually perfect albums by artists influenced by Laura:

 

 

Mike Scott and the Waterboys have performed this for years; it’s rarely less than transcendent.

  1. I’ll always love “I Never Meant To Hurt You.” It has an atmosphere of singing under a streetlight in New York City late at night. I think it’s the kind of perfection that Bachrach And David strove for, and Laura beat ’em at their own damn game.
